Talen Energy Names Terry Nutt Chief Executive Officer
Talen Energy announced a leadership change on September 29, 2026. Talen Energy named President Terry Nutt its next CEO effective January 1, 2027, succeeding retiring CEO Mac McFarland, with an emphasis on safe operations, its flywheel strategy and disciplined capital allocation.

Leadership background
Nutt has more than 25 years of experience in the deregulated energy industry and has served as Talen’s President since December 2025, overseeing operations, commercial activities, administrative functions and external affairs. He was Talen’s Chief Financial Officer from July 2023 through December 2025 and earlier served as Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director of EDF Trading North America from 2018 to 2023. He also held senior finance and risk management roles at Vistra Corporation and its predecessor entities.
The mandate
In Talen’s announcement, Nutt said his priorities are to maintain safe and reliable operations, execute Talen’s flywheel strategy and allocate capital with discipline. The company said he will also join its Board of Directors upon his appointment as CEO.
